Abstract

In the weightlifting sport, since 2018 the IWF has announced the new bodyweight categories for all types of weightlifting championships, whereas in Lahore, Pakistan the researcher has identified a performance-affecting factor i.e. despite following IWF’s new bodyweight category classification the organizers have conducted the Inter-Lahore Board Colleges Weightlifting Tournament 2022-2023 according to former body weight category classification. The objective of the current study was (a) to assess the fact if participating with previous bodyweight category classification affects the weightlifter’s competition performance, and (b) to emphasize single and new bodyweight category classification competitions nationwide. After the competition has concluded, a question was asked from the affectees i.e. 23 professional weightlifters, and noted their responses in ‘yes’ and ‘no’. The result of a nonparametric test for one-sample proportion, using SPSS version 23 showed that the majority of weightlifters felt a decline in their performance in the said competition. Therefore, it is  concluded that no matter what level of competition is conducted, the authorities must organize the weightlifting competitions held with IWF’s new bodyweight category classification to avoid the waste of local talent
